West Midlands Young Volunteer Programme

Please find attached our promotional flyer, and further information about both programmes; we have one running in Staffordshire and one running in Worcestershire on Saturday 23rd November, 2019.
The programme is aimed at 14 – 16 year olds, and they will complete aquatic helper theory, time keeper theory and first aid. There will then be expectations of them to complete practical elements and additional volunteering hours outside of the programme. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis so be quick to secure your place!!!
The West Midlands Young Volunteer Programme is open to any Swim England club member from within the West Midlands aged 14 – 16 years on the day of the programme.
There are a total of 60 places available on the programme. 30 in Staffordshire and 30 in Worcestershire. The cost per young volunteer is £25.00. Places will be confirmed on a first come first serve basis.
The project will give you the skills, experience and qualification to help volunteer at your club. Volunteering is a really great way of giving something back to your club, but it also gives you valuable life skills in preparation for adulthood.
This year’s programme will include:
• Timekeeper Course - This is an introduction into the world of the swimming official. It covers the practical aspects of what is required of a Timekeeper, by means of a short theory session followed by a practical assessment. Practical aspect must be completed at your home club in your own time.
• Young Aquatic Helper Course – Designed for people who wish to actively assist on poolside in any aquatic environment e.g. clubs or learn to swim schemes. Practical aspect must be completed at your home club in your own time.
• Core Skills First Aid – This course is designed to ensure volunteers are equipped with the vital life-saving skills to be the difference in a first aid emergency e.g Recovery position, asthma, choking.
• You are required to complete at least 10 hours volunteering at your club, and to attend and help at a County and/or regional event. You will be given a log book for completion when attending the course.
Please note: If you are able to provide a basic stopwatch for the Young Volunteer attending the workshop, this would be appreciated.
The closing date for registration is 8th November 2019.

Tomorrow, we say Bon Voyage and good luck to Caitlin Chance as she leaves us to volunteer in Tanzania for a month, before travelling and then off to Cardiff University.
Caitlin has been a member of RSC for many years as a competitive swimmer. At the end of lockdown became a qualified teacher and has been dedicated to the Learn to Swim Program here at RSC. Caitlin is loved by all those that she has trained and competed with and especially those who she has taught. She will be very much missed by all of the team.
We wish Caitlin the very best and look forward to hearing about her adventures. - 04 Mar 2024Success at World Masters Competition
Last week, Paul Wilkes ( our Club Captain ) returned from the World Masters Championships in Doha. He was competing in the Butterfly events. On his birthday, he raced in the 100 fly, where he finished in a fantastic 5th place with a time of 58.44s. Later on in the competition, he competed in the 200 fly event where he won a silver medal with a time of 2:10.28. Both of his swims also won him new British Records in these events in his age group.

Worcestershire take back the Three County Gala Trophy
After loosing the trophy to Gloucestershire last year, the Worcester County team swam their hearts out yesterday in Wolverhampton. Ten swimmers from Redditch were selected to join Jon in the bid to win back the Three County Trophy.

As RSC celebrated 125years, it hosted and supported some Redditch First Schools in the first gala for several years. Moon's Moat were proud to meet the Chairman this afternoon and be supported by some of our amazing young adults. RSC are massively proud of the part you all played today, Thank you!
Spirits were high back at school and the afternoon was described as ''The best day ever''.

A terrific performance by all the swimmers who took part in today's final but when it came to it, Redditch took the lead and won the gala by 3 points. This puts Redditch at the top of the Winter League for the 2nd year running.
